The Battle of Al Khandaq

Rasulu Allah (saws) learned about the plot of Quraish and Banu Al Nadhir. He (saws) called the Muslims in Madinah for a meeting. After informing them of what was happening, he asked them for their opinions. A clever Muslim man of a Persian origin, Salman Al Farisi, suggested to dig a trench around Madinah. This was a trick of war from Persia which the Arab were not used to.

Rasulu Allah (saws) liked the idea of Salman. The Muslims started digging the trench immediately. They were divided into shifts. Rasulu Allah (saws) himself participated in the digging of the trench. His help was sought whenever a stubborn bolder faced the Muslims or they had difficulty proceeding. The Muslims finished digging the trench just before Quraish's army arrived at Al Madinah.

The allies were surprised by the trench. They had not experienced such thing before. They did not have any choice but to camp on the other side of the trench.
